Author Guidelines

JDEP (Jurnal Dinamika Ekonomi Pembangunan) welcomes original research in development economics and related fields. Authors must prepare their manuscripts using the journal’s article template and comply with the following requirements.

1. Scope and Language

Manuscripts must address topics within the journal’s Focus and Scope, including development economics, public economics, monetary and fiscal economics, regional development, international trade, environmental and natural resource economics, and related fields.

Articles may be written in English or Indonesian. The language must be clear, consistent, and appropriate for academic readers.

2. Manuscript Length and Layout

Manuscripts must contain at least 6,000 words, counted from the Introduction through the Conclusion, including the literature review, methods, results, and discussion. Titles, abstracts, references, article declarations, tables, figure captions, and supplementary materials are excluded from this minimum.

This word-count requirement replaces the previous instruction limiting manuscripts to 10–15 pages. Authors must develop their arguments sufficiently without unnecessary repetition.

Use the supplied JDEP template with the following layout:

  • A4 paper.

  • Margins of 3 cm on all sides.

  • Book Antiqua font.

  • Main title in 14-point bold type, following the template.

  • Abstract text in 10-point type with single spacing.

  • Main headings and remaining manuscript formatting as specified in the template.

Preserve the template’s paragraph styles and column settings. Submit an editable Microsoft Word file.

Do not include appendices in the main manuscript. Supporting materials may be submitted separately for editorial consideration.

3. Title and Author Information

The title must be informative, use initial capitals, and contain no more than 15 words. Provide Indonesian and English titles in the positions shown in the template.

List author names consistently and provide complete affiliations, including study programme or department, faculty where applicable, institution, and country. Use superscript numbers to distinguish different affiliations.

Identify the corresponding author and provide an active email address.

Dates of receipt, revision, acceptance, publication, DOI, and the final “How to Cite” information are completed by the editorial team. Authors must not retain the template’s example dates or sample article citation.

For double-blind review, submit author information separately and remove identifying details from the review manuscript and its document properties.

4. Abstracts and Keywords

Provide Indonesian and English abstracts, each containing 150 words. Both versions must convey the same substantive information.

Each abstract should briefly cover:

  • The research problem and purpose.

  • The specific contribution or novelty.

  • The research methods and data.

  • The principal findings.

  • The conclusion and implications.

Present the abstract as a coherent paragraph. Avoid citations, unnecessary background, undefined abbreviations, and unsupported claims.

Provide no more than five keywords or keyword phrases in each language.

5. Manuscript Structure

Use the following main sections, with equivalent English headings for English manuscripts:

PENDAHULUAN / INTRODUCTION

Explain the research problem, its importance, relevant previous studies, the research gap, and the study’s objectives or research questions.

Following the JDEP template, integrate the literature review and theoretical discussion into the Introduction. Where relevant, develop hypotheses and explain the conceptual framework.

Compare and critically assess previous studies rather than present a sequence of summaries. Explain precisely what the study adds.

As a guide, the Introduction should occupy no more than approximately 25% of the main text.

METODE PENELITIAN / RESEARCH METHODS

Describe the research design, setting, unit of analysis, data sources, sampling or case selection, measurement, and analytical procedures.

Quantitative studies should explain variable definitions, model specifications, estimation methods, relevant assumptions, and diagnostic procedures. Report data exclusions, missing-data treatment, and transformations where applicable.

Qualitative studies should explain participant or case selection, data collection, coding, interpretation, and procedures supporting analytical credibility.

Explain ethical safeguards where relevant. A separate ethical approval declaration is not universally required, but authors must comply with applicable requirements and provide supporting information when requested.

The Methods section should occupy approximately 15% or less of the main text, without omitting information necessary to assess the study.

HASIL DAN PEMBAHASAN / RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Present findings in a logical sequence and explain how they answer the research questions.

Discussion must interpret the findings, examine plausible explanations, and compare them with theory and relevant previous studies. Explain agreements, differences, contributions, and implications.

Avoid repeating every number already displayed in tables. Distinguish statistical significance from substantive importance and avoid causal claims unsupported by the research design.

This section should generally form the largest part of the manuscript, approximately 50% of the main text.

SIMPULAN / CONCLUSION

Answer the research objectives and explain the principal contribution, practical or policy implications, limitations, and directions for future research.

Do not merely repeat the abstract or introduce unsupported findings. Recommendations must follow from the evidence.

The Conclusion should occupy approximately 10% or less of the main text.

These proportions guide manuscript balance and must not prevent adequate methodological explanation.

6. Tables, Figures, and Equations

Place tables and figures near their first discussion in the text. Number them consecutively and separately: Table 1, Table 2, Figure 1, Figure 2.

Provide informative titles and source notes. Explain abbreviations, measurement units, and statistical significance symbols.

Tables must be editable. Present analytical results in publication-ready tables rather than paste unedited software output or screenshots.

Figures must remain readable at publication size. Number equations when referenced and define all symbols.

Use source descriptions appropriate to the material, such as “Source: Authors’ calculations” or “Source: Authors’ own work.” Adapted and reproduced materials require attribution and permission where applicable.

7. References and Citation Quality

Use APA 7th edition consistently for in-text citations and the reference list. Use reference-management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or an equivalent application, and manually check the resulting entries.

Include at least 20 references. At least 80% of the references must be primary journal articles published within the preceding ten years. Relevant foundational works may be included among the remaining references.

References must be authentic, traceable, and directly relevant. Authors must consult the sources they cite and verify bibliographic details, including authors, publication year, title, journal, volume, issue, pages or article number, and DOI where available.

Suitable sources may include:

  • Relevant articles published in JDEP.

  • Articles in journals indexed in Scopus or other recognised scholarly databases.

  • Other credible peer-reviewed research.

  • Official statistical publications, policy documents, and authoritative datasets where relevant.

Indexing status alone does not establish the quality or relevance of an individual article. References to JDEP are welcome when academically justified but are not mandatory and do not influence acceptance.

Do not use fabricated or unverified references. Avoid excessive self-citation and irrelevant citations intended to increase citation counts.

Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list, and every listed reference must be cited in the manuscript.

8. Article Declarations

Place the following declarations after the Conclusion and before the References. Use the manuscript’s main language and replace all bracketed instructions with accurate information.

For double-blind review, provide identifying declarations separately to the editorial office and restore them in the accepted version.

AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Conceptualization: [author initials]; methodology: [author initials]; investigation and data curation: [author initials]; formal analysis: [author initials]; writing, original draft preparation: [author initials]; writing, review and editing: [author initials]. All authors reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agree to be accountable for the work.

Assign roles according to actual contributions. An author may perform multiple roles. For single-author articles, describe the roles undertaken by that author.

FUNDING

Select and complete the appropriate statement:

“This research was supported by [funding organisation], grant number [number, if applicable]. The funder’s role was [describe involvement or state that the funder had no involvement].”

OR

“This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.”

CONFLICT OF INTEREST

“The authors declare no conflicts of interest related to this study.”

OR

“[Author initials] reports [relevant financial or non-financial relationship]. [Explain management of the conflict where applicable.]”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

“The authors thank [individuals or organisations] for [specific assistance]. Individuals named in this section have agreed to be acknowledged.”

OR

“The authors have no acknowledgments to declare.”

DECLARATION OF AI USE

“During manuscript preparation, the authors used [tool name and version, if available] to [edit the language of or translate specified author-written text]. The authors verified the changes and take full responsibility for the final manuscript.”

OR

“The authors did not use generative AI tools in preparing this manuscript.”

Generative AI must not write new manuscript content or fabricate research evidence. Disclosure does not make prohibited use acceptable. Authors must follow JDEP’s Plagiarism and AI Policy.

DATA AVAILABILITY STATEMENT

Select and adapt the statement that accurately describes access:

“The data and analytical code supporting this study are available in [repository] at [URL or DOI].”

OR

“The datasets analysed in this study are available from [provider] through [URL or access procedure], subject to the provider’s conditions. The authors are not authorised to redistribute them.”

OR

“The data are not publicly available because of [specific restriction]. Access to [available materials] may be requested from [contact], subject to [conditions and permissions].”

OR

“The data cannot be shared because of [specific restriction]. [Describe any supporting documentation or code that can be accessed.]”

OR

“No new data were collected or generated in this study.”

Public data sharing must not breach participant consent, confidentiality, or third-party rights.

ETHICS APPROVAL AND INFORMED CONSENT — WHERE APPLICABLE

A separate declaration is optional unless specifically requested by the editor. Authors remain responsible for complying with JDEP’s Research Ethics and Ethical Clearance policy.

Where included, the declaration must accurately identify approval, an authorised exemption, or the basis on which approval was not required. Describe informed consent where relevant.

Never claim ethical approval, an exemption, or a consent waiver that was not obtained.

9. Originality and Editorial Assessment

Submissions must be original and must not be under consideration elsewhere. Disclose related publications and previous dissemination.

JDEP screens manuscripts using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity threshold of 20%. A score below this threshold does not establish originality or guarantee acceptance. Editors assess the nature and context of overlap.

Suitable manuscripts proceed to double-blind review involving at least two reviewers. Authors must respond to revision requests through a point-by-point response and explain any suggestions they do not adopt.

10. Submission and Publication Information

Submit manuscripts through JDEP’s online submission system. Before submission, check that:

  • The current JDEP template has been used.

  • The main text meets the minimum 6,000-word requirement.

  • Both abstracts and keyword lists are included.

  • Author information and anonymised review files are prepared correctly.

  • References meet the quantity, recency, relevance, and verification requirements.

  • Tables, figures, and declarations are complete.

  • All authors approve submission.

Consult the journal’s Article Publication Fee page for applicable charges. Payment does not guarantee acceptance.
